Through Different Eyes – A One-Day Nature Photography Workshop

Sunday 18 October 2026 | 9:00 am–5:00 pm
The Bog Conservation Area
$125 per person | Adults 18+

Seven subjects. Same place. Different eyes.

Photography isn’t just about knowing which button to press.

It’s about slowing down, noticing what’s around you and deciding what matters within the frame.

Join award-winning photographer Jimmy Malecki for a relaxed, hands-on day of photography at The Bog Conservation Area.

Designed for beginners, Through Different Eyes will help you better understand the camera you already have — whether that’s a smartphone, compact camera, mirrorless camera or DSLR — while exploring how photographers use light, focus and composition to turn what they see into a photograph.

No previous photography experience required.

BOOK YOUR PLACE — $125

Maximum 8 participants.

What You’ll Learn

We’ll start the day by getting to know your camera.

We’ll take the mystery out of focus, aperture, shutter speed and ISO, then explore seven simple ways photographers direct attention to a subject:

Selective Focus • Motion • Framing • Leading Lines • Contrast • Rule of Thirds • Isolation

Then we’ll head outside and put it into practice.

The Through Different Eyes Challenge

In 1869, Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir famously worked side by side at La Grenouillère near Paris.

They looked at the same scene — yet created very different paintings.

Why?

Because they saw it differently.

That’s the inspiration for our afternoon at the Bog.

Jimmy will select seven subjects around the Conservation Area. Everyone will photograph the same seven subjects, but how you photograph them is entirely up to you.

Move closer. Change your angle. Use focus. Find a frame. Follow a line. Wait for the light.

There is no single correct photograph.

Afterwards, we’ll return inside, choose our strongest photograph of each subject and learn some simple editing techniques.

Then we’ll put everyone’s photographs together.

Seven subjects.
Eight photographers.
Up to eight completely different ways of seeing each one.

That’s what Through Different Eyes is all about.

Or perhaps you simply love photography and nature and want to spend a day learning to see things differently.

You don’t need expensive equipment.

Bring the camera you already have.
